Jack Watson on graduation day

I'm Jack, an ambitious Physics graduate from the University of Warwick with a passion for science and technology. I enjoy sports, programming and my charity work as well as playing guitar and piano.

Sport

My main sports are cycling and badminton. During university, I took the opportunity to compete in BUCS cycling and was on the university badminton club executive team for two years. Over the years I have completed several long-distance cycling tours. I am also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and used to run medium-long distance before a knee injury. My newest sport is indoor bouldering.

Programming

My main programming language is Python which I have been learning and using for around 8 years. This has been indispensable during my degree (see Portfolio), especially for my summer research project and final year project. These both involved the analysis of large datasets and the use of Gaussian process ML models. I have also completed many personal projects including an automated online jigsaw puzzle solver, Snake for my BBC micro:bit, and trading algorithms.

Charity Work

I've participated in several fundraising activities both inside and outside of university. Firstly in the form of long-distance bike rides with my dad, raising nearly £1000 for charities including the Stroke Association. Then as Charities Officer for the university badminton club helping raise over £1000 for the Movember charity and hundreds of pounds for Coventry Childrens Hospice and Dementia UK.
